Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens also known as Queen Latifah is an American musician and rapper. Queen Latifah's performance in television and music has earned her the Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah was born in and raised in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita an educator who worked at Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens, Jr. an officer in the police force. Latifah's mother and father split at the time Latifah turned ten. Latifah attended Catholic school in Newark, New Jersey and was raised through her family's Baptist Church. When she was 8 Her cousin gifted her stage names Latifah that means gentle and loving in Arabic. Latifah is a very tall girl of 5'10 inches who played in the basketball team of her high school team. in a school show, she performed the song Home from The Wiz. Latifah started beatboxing in the ladies fresh rap group. Latifah was member of the Flavor Unit - a group of rappers that joined by the producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the 45 King recorded a rendition of Queen Latifah's Princess of the Posse rap. The recording was given to the host of Yo! MTV Raps The Fab 5 Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music, who worked for Latifah during that time, was impressed by her song. In 1988 she released Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's first single.
